Nowadays Titanium dioxide has got a huge application in industries. Specifically paint and cosmetics industry. This material is known by three types, ‘Rutile’, ‘Anatase’ and brookite according to its chemical phase. Among these phases, the rutile phase is the most stable but the other phases, Anatase and Brookite, will convert to rutile by heat. From spatial point of view, rutile and anatase phases are tetragonal and brookite is orthorhombic. For some usages like conventional filtration of solutions, there’s no need for crystal phase. The crystal phase is needed when some specific usages like photocatalysis or semi-conductivity are in mind e.g. Anatase is used for photo-sensitive paints and photocatalysts, and rutile could be used in dielectrics and high temperature oxygen sensors. Also, titanium dioxide has good resistance to UV light and causes white color in different chemical compounds. This material is produced by ‘Sakai chemical industries co.’ in Japan and is imported to Iran by ‘Pars Hayan co.’ and its main usage is for improving UV shielding in sunscreens.
